Debra Brooks, Studio Owner/Yoga Teacher
Debra Brooks is a native San Diegan, graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School and a graduate San Diego State University School of Social Work with her Masters in 1975.
Debra recently retired from a 30 year career as a Medical/Psychiatric/Administrative Social Worker. She has a wide variety of experience helping others who are suffering and/or need assistance in accessing and navigating health care services. To take care of herself, Debra has been practicing yoga since 1990.
After retiring, Debra started teaching yoga in her home to a courageous and faithful group of friends and family. The demand became so great that she could no longer accommodate the request or take on the liability. This led to her completion of yoga teacher training in August 2014 and subsequently obtaining her 200 hour Certification from Yoga Alliance in September 2014.
This training and certification process provided Debra with the tools to not only teach a variety of styles of yoga, but more importantly, to keep her students safe by offering modifications and hands on adjustments when appropriate.
Debra teaches “Hatha Yoga” which is an ancient discipline that focuses on the physical aspect of yoga called asana (poses) and “Flow Yoga” which is when the execution of the asana (poses) are fluid, related (pose/counter pose), progressive and often accompanied by soft rhythmic or energetic music.
These styles and all yoga help integrate and develop the connection between the mind, body and the breath (spirit) for optimum holistic performance in life.
